The Problem
Deer are the single most destructive crop pest in Michigan. Losses in corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and winter wheat can reach tens of thousands of dollars in a single growing season — damage that compounds year after year.
Beyond direct losses, most crop damage insurance policies require farmers to demonstrate a best-effort attempt to manage and mitigate the source of the damage. Without documented population control measures, your claim coverage may be at risk. DoeGetter helps you fulfill that requirement systematically and at no out-of-pocket cost.
Deer damage to corn, soybeans, and small grains can exceed $50,000 on large operations in a single year.
Insurers may reduce or deny crop loss claims when landowners have not made a documented effort to control deer damage.
Without active population management, deer return to the same fields year after year, compounding losses across seasons.
Managed hunting is the most effective and cost-efficient method of deer population control — and DoeGetter handles the logistics for you.

Michigan DNR Program
Michigan farmers and landowners have access to a powerful tool that most don’t know about: Crop Protection Permits issued by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. These permits allow hunting for female deer throughout the entire growing season — well outside normal hunting dates.
A recent expansion of the program now allows you to invite any hunter you choose to participate — removing the previous restriction to a state-designated list. DoeGetter is built specifically to connect you with eligible hunters and manage the permit documentation process on your behalf.
Permits cover the full growing season, not just the traditional fall window. Apply in advance and activate once your crops are in the ground.
Alfalfa, winter wheat, and overwintered cover crops are currently eligible. The program continues to expand as DNR evaluates additional crop types.
Unlike the old system, you are no longer limited to a state-approved list. Register on DoeGetter and invite trusted hunters directly from our vetted network.
DoeGetter guides you through the Michigan DNR application process step by step — including documentation requirements and activation procedures.
Why Farmers Choose DoeGetter
DoeGetter is a completely free service for farmers and landowners. There are no fees, subscriptions, or hidden costs — ever.
Every visit and harvest is timestamped and logged. Export a complete activity report to support crop damage insurance claims.
You decide which hunters access your land and when. Assign specific hunters or open access to the broader network — your property, your rules.
Track deer harvests by season, property, and hunter. Know exactly what population management has occurred on your land.
Every hunter in the DoeGetter network is committed to ethical harvesting and the field-to-fork mission. No trophy hunters — food and conservation come first.
With DNR Crop Protection Permits, your land can be actively managed throughout the growing season — not just in October.
About Us
DoeGetter was founded by Forrest Waggoner and Evan Barrett with a simple mission: ethically harvest an overabundant resource while helping Michigan farmers protect their livelihoods. We believe deer management and high-quality, locally sourced food aren’t competing goals — they’re the same goal.
Through our partnership with the National Deer Association’s Field-to-Fork program and close collaboration with the Michigan DNR, we’ve built a network of hunters who share our commitment to responsible wildlife stewardship. This Farmer Registry is the platform that brings it all together — giving you transparency, control, and documentation in one place.
